Decolonizing Ecology & Environmental Sciences
Members of the Student Sustainability Commission (SSC), the African Students Association of Zurich (ASAZ : https://www.asaz.ch/ ) hosted in the greenhouse an exchange on the topic of Decolonizing Ecology and the Environmental Sciences. Starting from short presentations by Prof. Elizabeth Tilley (D-MAVT) and Prof. Kenza Benabderrazik (D-USYS), the aim was to discuss, reflect on inclusion in ecology and research in the environmental sciences.
Lunch on Eco-feminism
Organized by the students of the sustainability commission and VSETH, this event gathered many students and Staff of ETH in the greenhouse to discuss informally on the topic of eco-feminism. Definitions, references, links to current research and education have been presented and discussed.
Seeing the city a plant at a time: A new perspective on urban spaces
During the Sustainability week, in March 2022, we questioned the potential of public spaces as vehicles of nutrients, stories and as a transformational platform for more sustainable food systems. Together, we heard some input and then went on a walk to explore the urban spaces around us.

This years’ COP 28 will take place in Dubai, and we at SSC will mirror it! Join is in eight events to gain new perspectives about the climate crisis, the international framework to address it and the role of COP!
Are you frustrated when you talk to your parents about climate change? Do your relatives talk down the effect of the ecological crisis? Do you feel vulnerable when hearing wrong arguments about climate action? Do you find it hard to speak up to people who openly and convincingly say wrong things about the climate crisis to justify non-action? Then, come to this workshop organized by SSC to learn more about the discourses of climate denial and how to fight them!In a first part, you’ll learn how to identify rhetoric strategies that determine the outcome of discussions about the climate crisis, based on case studies. In a second part, you’ll learn about these strategies used and how to act against them. And in a third part, you’ll get that chance to practice this knowhow hands-on by interacting with actors who will play devil’s advocate and play the role of climate deniers.
